SO MUCH JOY.

A few days ago I applied for a typesetting position at this stationary company William Arthur. I really want to get the job because it's LITERALLY three minutes from my house, and it isn't retail. First of all, they get mucho respect from me because the application is ONE PAGE front and back instead of one of those stupid applications with ninty pages of bullshit psychological questions.

Less than twenty-four hours later they call me in for an interview. YAY! I go to the interview, and my interviewer asks me if I know PCs or Macs. I say, of course, that I love Macs and use nothing else, but I can figure out PCs if I have to. He says everything in the company is Mac. I do a little internal dance of joy. He asks me if I've ever used Quark. I say no, but that I taught myself how to use Adobe InDesign. He is pleased because apparantly Quark is just a more simple version of InDesign.

The interview is great. Instead of asking inane questions like "Where do you see yourself in five years?" or "Why do you want to work here?" I get a demo of the procedure to do a basic layout, and then I am asked to DO a basic layout. On a Mac. With a program that looks like a light version of InDesign. Hell yes, I rock out at it!

Interviewer tells me I did wonderfully and gives me basic spiel. About twelve weeks of training. Quiet, laid back atmoshpere. I can wear whatever I want AND I can listen to my iPod while I work!!!! Tells me that I'll hear back by Tuesday at the latest whether I got the job. (The whole interview takes place Thursday at 4PM.)

Fast forward to 9:30AM on Friday. Phone rings. It's William Arthur asking when I can start! PLUS they're giving me a dollar more an hour than the usual starting wage, so I'll be making $12 an hour to do layouts on Macs while listening to classic rock on my iPod!!!!

I am so beyond happy about this! It's a REAL job where I don't have to cook or make coffee or ask if people want paper or plastic. ZERO CUSTOMER INTERACTION. The only thing I don't love are the hours. It's second shift, so I'll be working 5PM-1:30AM, but I can live with it. I won't have to really change my sleeping habits since I'm usually up late anyway. Full time! Benefits! Lots of overtime once the holiday crunch starts!

I am actually EXCITED to start this job on Monday. I'm. . . eager to go to work. That has not happened in a VERY long time.
