So my Mom's been back in the hospital since Thursday because out of nowhere she got a really high fever of 103. When I went in this morning to visit her, she told me that the doctors said she had pneumonia. They're probably going to keep her in the hospital for a good amount of next week, which I'm glad of. All the nurses are really sweet and good to her, and this way I won't have to worry about her when I'm at work. Plus they have many good drugs at the hospital.

Speaking of drugs, I know exactly why there is no cure for cancer. Why would the drug companies want to find a cure for a disease when they can charge SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS for one single dose of chemotherapy?

You read that right. Six grand for one dose. My Mom doesn't have insurance, and she's in the process of applying for this state program that pays for medical care since we live in a country that seems to equate socialized medicine with raping bunnies. But until all the paperwork goes through, we're still getting all the bills, and today I opened the bill for her first round of chemo and SIX THOUSAND FUCKING DOLLARS.

They can spend millions of dollars developing BONER PILLS but they can't cure cancer. Fucking drug companies.

You never really realize how bad it is until it happens to you or someone you know. I saw Sicko like two months before my Mom got sick, and it told me so much that I had no idea about and it made me SO ANGRY. And now that I'm actually living it, I'm beyond angry. And there are still people in America who think organized health care is a bad thing! Because OBVIOUSLY every other country in the world is wrong and we're the only ones who are smart. Suuuuuuuure trust the country with a sub-literate for president.

I hate, HATE, asking people for money, and I feel so damn guilty when it's given after I say no, but seriously, if you guys need help with all these bill I'd be more than willing to start a fund and put some money in there for you guys.

I have similar feelings on the topic, and I know very well how much this all fucking sucks, trust me.

You know, I was going to say no that's not necessary, but the bills are starting to pile up, and I'm dangerously close to having to do the "use a credit card to pay another credit card that I withdrew money from to pay the electric bill." And once that starts, it's really bad. I mean, you have a whole lot more fandom contacts than me. I feel like a bum for even considering agreeing to this, but what I make covers the rent and my school loans and that's pretty much it. So maybe if it's not to much trouble you could pimp our situation to the fandom at large? Guh, I really hate this, but I don't know what else to do, and I don't want to mention anything to my Mom because she doesn't need to worry more than she already is. All I can say is, I'm glad I don't eat much!

Fandom is an awesome place, a place I wish to do more with now that I've graduated and should theoretically get a life. A mom that awesome should get all the fandom loving as possible, and I'll see that she does. SUBTEXT!

Hokay, so I told you I'd get back with you as soon as I figured some things out. duia and I are going to be in this together (maybe like lesbians?), and we're currently brainstorming and working as best as we can until she gets her internets back up at home (mine now works). Big Pharma sucks, though to be fair, cancer is a complex disease. Still, I agree that more money should go towards it than many other things (ED, the war, etc).

It really is. It continuously baffles me when people say that America is the greatest country in the world. Maybe if you were a millionaire to begin with, but for the rest of us it pretty much sucks ass.
