OCTOBER ORGY OF VIOLENCE 12 - IN THE YEAR OF THE PLAGUE

30. Siren - The special effects were definitely “cheesy SyFy original” level, but I actually liked this movie. The weird strip club filled with supernatural creatures was a cool concept, and the acting wasn’t terrible. The monster reminded me of a low budget version of the creature in “Splice.” All in all, a decent enough monster movie, and one that I wouldn’t mind giving a rewatch.

31. The Invisible Man - I ended up saving this movie for last by accident because Joe wanted to watch it with me, but I’m glad I did because this was my favorite for the month. Elizabeth Moss is such a fantastic actress, and I see why this movie received the acclaim it did. The tension was off the charts, and I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen because I was constantly searching for those tiny indications that someone was there. The ending was supremely satisfying too. 10/10 HIGHLY recommend.

OCTOBER ORGY OF VIOLENCE 12 - IN THE YEAR OF THE PLAGUE

Posting my recap a bit early because I’m off to spend Halloweekend with some friends at an AirBNB watching Hocus Pocus and drinking rosé in a hot tub!

This year I had a LOT of great movies. I normally pick a top three, but I had to go top five this time because I really couldn’t decide. There were honestly a ton of movies this month that even if they don’t make any of my top lists were really enjoyable. I definitely plan to check out the other two of the Welcome to Blumhouse features and the many many Into the Dark movies on Hulu.

5 Suspiria

Honorable mentions go to Parasite and Antebellum. Other than #1, the other four were really all so good that the order doesn’t matter. See, I can enjoy some arthouse horror!

Goodnight Mommy
Hounds of Love

Even though I didn’t like Hereditary and I still don’t get the hype about it, I do recognize that it’s a good movie. It’s just not something that appeals to me in the slightest. However, it at least wasn’t massively predictable like Goodnight Mommy or just abysmal all around like Hounds of Love. (And I was warned about Hounds of Love, so that’s my own damn fault.)

And a dishonorable mention also goes to Cadaver. That movie was just disappointing. The trailer made it look a lot better than it was so I went into it with decently high expectations only to have them dashed by a beyond transparent plot and wooden characters. But at least the creepy hotel was pretty.

Next year will be my 13th year of my horror countdowns, and it’s been a few years since I’ve done a top 31, so I think it’s going to be time to revisit my favorites. There have been so many fantastic movies in the last few years and it’s going to be tough narrowing it down to 31. I’m glad I have a year to plan!
