27. Cadaver - This had a lot of potential, but ended up being fairly mediocre. The location in the grand hotel was beautiful, but it was painfully predictable from start to finish. I don’t need constant twists and turns in a movie to keep my interest, but “Eyes Wide Shut” with cannibalism instead of orgies didn’t do it for me. The complete lack of world-building bugged me too. If you’re giving me a post-apocalyptic setting, at least give a little bit of a backstory. 60 seconds of exposition, that’s all I ask for. Not my least favorite this month (that still goes to “Goodnight Mommy”), but it’s in the bottom five.
28. CAM - I actually really liked this one. I love Madeline Brewer in “The Handmaid’s Tale” and seeing her in a completely different role was great. One thing I really appreciated about the movie was how they treated Alice’s job as a camgirl as just a job. Seeing sex work portrayed as something normal and not something she had to be ashamed of was a breath of fresh air, and the ending was satisfying. Would watch again.
29. We Summon The Darkness - Part horror comedy, part batshit slasher movie, this one was entertaining just for all the 80s ridiculousness. A+ use of hairspray as a weapon, and the Johnny Knoxville cameo as someone’s dad just made me feel old. The 90s were still ten years ago, right?
