My beautiful new Yaris
Jan. 31st, 2009 10:15 pmFlist, I'd like you to meet Bessie IV. Every car my Mom ever had was named Bessie, so I'm continuing the tradition.
This car is lovely. Unlike the piece of shit I've been driving, this car has great pickup, steers like a dream, and is wonderful in every way. It's TINY which I love. I hate big cars. I don't feel comfortable driving a big car, so it's like this car was made just for me.
ISN'T SHE THE CUTEST THING EVER?

John, the salesman at the Toyota dealership was an absolute sweetheart. Pretty much the opposite of the car salesman stereotype. We were at the dealership for about three hours on Thursday because they had to call around to find a car that was blue and had power locks and windows. He made me promise to stop in before I went to Texas to tell him how I liked the car.
Of course my grandfather had to behave like an idiot by actually YELLING at John and POUNDING ON THE TABLE demanding that he give us a lower price. First of all, the price was low. I got the car pimped out with all the power packages, and it was under $15K. Second of all, I AM PAYING FOR 100% OF THE CAR. If the price satisfies ME, then that's the important part. Third and the biggest one of all, behaving like a jackass and screaming at people is not going to make them help you. My grandfather has always been like this. I really really cannot stand him. It's always the wrong people who get to live and the people who are actually worth something who die.
I love my car, I just wish that Mum had been the one at the dealership with me. Mum would have loved my zippy little blue car. She did love it when we test drove one over the summer. I do feel that Mum bought me the car. She did help pick it out, she approved the choice, and her life insurance paid for it. Mum always got me the best presents. I'm going to consider this my last Christmas present from her.
I just cannot wait until she has Texas plates.

I am like Dean Winchester with this car. I was talking to her and saying how I was going to get her a nice pretty GPS. My grandma and I went to the grocery store today, and I was totally walking away from the car BACKWARDS saying "It's just so damn CUTE!"

Date: 2009-02-01 03:55 pm (UTC)Of course, I'm sure the price of petrol has something to do with it. If petrol in the States was anywhere near as expensive as it is here, even with it having come down lately, I doubt there'd be so many big cars.

Date: 2009-02-02 08:25 am (UTC)I hear ya on the 'not a fan of big cars' thing. I feel the same. Besides, it's awful trying to find a parking space in the city with a big car.
