It’s the most wonderful time of year again folks! Time for pumpkin spice flavored everything (let’s be honest, I got on that train in August), slightly cooler temperatures (it might get down to a chilly 80 degrees soon), and above all SCARY MOVIES. This is year number nine of my annual tradition, and I have quite the lineup planned. So without further ado, I bring you - NAS’ OCTOBER ORGY OF VIOLENCE 9 - SESSION 9

1. Gerald’s Game

I read Gerald’s Game way back in high school. I still remember picking it up off the shelf in the Saco, Maine library. Despite being a King fan for much longer than was really age appropriate (thanks for never censoring my reading material Mom!) I’d never heard of this one. The book freaked me out back then, and the movie unnerved me enough that I had to take a break 20 minutes from the end and go grab my cat.

No joke, I literally walked downstairs, grabbed my cat and then I felt okay unpausing the movie. Because creepy grave-robbing psychos are obviously deterred by orange tabby cats.

It was a great adaption. I’ve enjoyed Mike Flanagan’s other movies, and this one was no exception. This movie shares a lot of similarities with Dolores Claiborne in subject matter, and I was really impressed with how engaging a film that takes place almost entirely in one room with the lead chained to a bed managed to be. I’ve said it before but I am REALLY digging the Stephen King renaissance that’s going on. Now let’s see a Pet Semetary remake please.
