31. Errementari: The Blacksmith and the Devil - I always try to pick a movie that looks like something special to watch on Halloween, and while I had plenty of movies left on my list that looked entertaining, none of them had that uniqueness that I was searching for so I started aimlessly scrolling through Netflix and stumbled across this gem.
I ended up barely watching any foreign movies this year. (This is only the second one.) I’ve never seen a Basque movie before either, and this one really was fantastic. It was like watching a dark, twisted fairytale - the original Grimm version before Disney got ahold of them. Stunning visuals and the acting was quite good. (That being said, I did watch it with subtitles. I loathe dubbed movies, and I listened to about 30 seconds of the dubbing just to see and the voice acting was….not good.)
It isn’t a typical slasher or demon possession movie, but it hit all my mythology nerd buttons. I’ll definitely be rewatching this one, and it was exactly what I wanted for Halloween.
